An interactive lesson in game theory
A harvest dilemma on the collective farm
Twelve villagers. Ten seasons. One shared field. Every season you choose: toil in the mud, or shirk in the shade. Shirk alone and you eat while others sweat. Shirk together — and nobody eats at all.
The simulation
You are one of 12 villagers. Each season choose Toil (+10 work points) or Shirk (+2). The harvest is pooled: 55% is shared equally, 45% is divided by work points. You need 60 grain a season to eat properly. The other villagers watch, remember, and adapt. Why is this a dilemma? Read the theory →
